Max Carter

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in mathematics at UCLouvain. I defended my PhD thesis entitled "Harmonic Analysis on Totally Disconnected Locally Compact Groups" at UCLouvain in September 2026, where I was supervised by Pierre-Emmanuel Caprace and Timothée Marquis. Previously, I completed my BMath, BMath(Hons) and MPhil at The University of Newcastle in Australia. In November 2026, I will commence a 3 year postdoctoral position at Aarhus University in Denmark under the supervision of Corina Ciobotaru.

My mathematical interests span throughout much of mathematics, though, my main research interests at the present time lie firmly in the fields of abstract harmonic analysis and functional analysis. Specifically, I'm interested in problems concerning locally compact groups, their representation theory and harmonic analysis, and *-algebras and operator algebras on these groups. I also have research experience working on problems in the direction of infinite graph theory and theoretical computer science (mostly formal languages and automata).
